One thing I like about the licensing route is you can hear mixes down the road that you did with these different plugin suites, and make a more objective call on what to own outright.I got an email from Slate Digital that said this:
McDSP compressors, saturators, and filters are top notch, but I'm holding out for 6060 Ultimate strip when the price drops, also his multiband where you mix and match the compressor modules was really good sounding. The rest were OK, and a couple were kind of useless to me, like the "Pusher" Two of his saturators are among my favorites, and UBK as a compressor has a lot of character. Kush to me is more about his personal taste in terms of sound. I ended up with ELI's Arouser, which is an absolute favorite of mine on drums. Besides Sknote's version of the distressor, it was the only other emulation out there. Slate was decent across the board, when I had it they released FG-stress. At least I got to work my way through what's good, and what's hype (for me). They all have their high points, and I'm glad I did them all. I've done slate, mcdsp, and kush under sub. I did the sub a couple years back, but I didn't want to get locked in for another year.
